That means telling lawmakers NO to selling our roads to private, foreign corporations (in these CDA contracts), NO to raiding teacher retirement funds and public employee retirement funds to finance them, NO to ANY tax increases until they CLEAN HOUSE at TxDOT and STOP raiding the gas tax for things that don't relate to roads, and YES to the MOST AFFORDABLE way to fund roads (which is the statewide gas tax, hasn't been raised since 1991).

What: Hearing on Transportation Funding

Your support is needed on Monday January 4th, 4PM @ the City Hall Boards and Commissions Room 1101 (301 W. 2nd St ). The Public Safety Commission will be holding their second meeting and the primary item of business will be the presentation of the Austin Regional Intelligence Center's Privacy Policy.

Here is a copy of the first draft:

While we would all prefer Austin have no Fusion Center at all, unfortunately, we do not yet have the power to prevent one from coming to town.  We do however have a wonderful opportunity to preemptively influence the development of the policies and procedures that will govern ARIC.  By pushing for the creation of a citizen's privacy oversight committee, strengthening the privacy policy, and limiting the nature and amount of intelligence that can be gathered and the parties with access to said intelligence, we will drastically reduce ARIC's ability to violate our privacy and to infringe upon our rights.

The significance of this particular battle cannot be understated! The fusion center monstrosity represents the epitome of Big Brother and the Police State.  If we are to create a "pocket of liberty" here in Central Texas , we MUST ensure that this fusion center is the most transparent and accountable in the nation. We must send the message to our government that the people are out there, they are paying attention, and they will no longer stand for the militarization and federalization of our local police forces!

So join us, take action, and together, we WILL be free!

When: Monday, January 4th @ 4PM

Where: Austin City Hall - Boards and Commissions Room 1101 (301 West 2nd St.

On August 19, the Environmental Board issued a recommendation that the City Council “Appoint an independent task force/committee to study the impacts of the City of Austin's AWU water fluoridation program. The task force should include, but not be limited to representation from the Austin Water Utility, Watershed Protection, and Austin Travis County Health Department.”

Watch TAGsters in action HERE click on item 4B

The City Manager's Office has preempted any Council action by issuing its own rubber stamp report, dated 13 November. The report contains no new science or peer-reviewed literature—instead relying on the “authority” of the very institutions (Centers for Disease Control, American Dental Association, etc.) we are challenging.

Here's what you can do to HELP:

Action item-1: Email or telephone the City Council politely urging that they convene the independent, unbiased task force/committee the Environmental Board envisioned.

Action item-2: Email or telephone the City Council politely urging an end to water fluoridation, based on mounting scientific evidence of harm, uselessness for its professed purpose of improving children's dental health, and cost issues.

You can conveniently email all council members from the www.fluoridefreeaustin.com “Take Action” tab. Their phone numbers can be found under the “Council Members” tab.

Action item-3: Contact Assistant City Manager Rudy Garza to politely let him know that we, the public, are the largest group of stakeholders and we demand a place at the table.

Our resolution was voted on this evening at the Travis County Democratic Party's Executive Committee meeting.  The TCDP voted unanimously in favor!  (save for two abstentions.)

We'll be presenting our resolution once again to  the Austin City Council. If passed, this resolution will act as a city ordinance and prevent police officers from being trained as phlebotomists and put an end to "No Refusal" weekends!

Thanks again to everybody whose helped in this effort!
